The local bourse has closed lower after recovering from sharp falls earlier in the day.
By the closing bell the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 16 points, or 0.29 per cent, lower at 5,460.8, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 13.8 points, or 0.25 per cent, at 5,442.10.
