US sharemarkets finished at record highs on Friday in a shortened trading session. Investors sought value in sectors that have been out of favour such as consumer staples. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index was up by 69 points or 0.4% with the S&P 500 index up by 0.4% while the Nasdaq gained 18 points or 0.3%. Over the week the Dow rose by 1.5%, the S&P 500 rose by 1.4% and the Nasdaq rose by 1.5%.
