US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday. Investors fretted about trade friction at this weekend’s G7 meeting. But energy stocks rose in response to a higher oil price.
The Dow Jones was boosted by a 4.4% lift in McDonalds on reports that the fast-food retailer was planning more job layoffs. The technology sector lagged with shares in Microsoft down by 1.6% and Facebook down by 1.7%. The Dow Jones finished higher by 95 points or 0.4%. But the S&P 500 index fell by 0.1% and the Nasdaq index lost 54 points or 0.7%.
