The Nasdaq index hit an all-time high with Microsoft’s (+1.1%) valuation at US$2 trillion for the first time. Amazon (+1.5%) saw US$5.6 billion in online sales on the first day of its Prime promotional event. Netflix shares gained 2.4%. GameStop shares jumped 10% after the videogame retailer said it raised US$1 billion in share sales. The Dow Jones index rose by 69 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index gained 0.5% and the Nasdaq index climbed 112 points or 0.8%.
