Petra Data Science is supporting the next generation of mining researchers by granting University of Adelaide PhD students access to its proprietary technology and expertise. As a founding industry partner of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Integrated Operations for Complex Resources, Petra aims to provide students with industry experience and high-quality data. This initiative focuses on addressing the challenge of securing future resources through advanced mining research.
Petra’s software, designed to create value through managing geological variability, is being utilized by students like Sultan Abulkhair, who is researching the integration of real-time data into orebody models to improve mine planning. Another student, Milena Nasretdinova, is focusing on integrating high-resolution X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) data to quickly analyze core samples and predict processing characteristics. Petra’s CEO, Dr. Penny Stewart, emphasizes the importance of empowering data scientists with real-world experience in analytics, AI, and mining automation, highlighting data fusion as the backbone of intelligent, data-driven mining operations.
