Investors awaited inflation data out of both China and the US. And retail traders monitored movements in so-called meme stocks. Shares in GameStop rose 7.1% ahead of quarterly results. Consumer discretionary stocks rose while utilities fell. At the close of trade, the Dow was lower by 30 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index was flat. But the Nasdaq index was up by 43 points or 0.3%.
