US sharemarkets rose again on Thursday. Investors were encouraging by the latest retail sales figures. Utilities lifted in response to lower bond yields. But ongoing uncertainty about Greek debt negotiations trimmed market gains.

The ASX 200 has closed near the best levels of the day, gaining 1.4 percent. Almost all sectors joined in on the rally with energy stocks leading the way, finishing up 2.0 percent.

The ASX 200 is up 1 percent, lifted by a rally in the financial, energy and materials sectors. The Aussie dollar has been given a boost by much better than expected employment data for the month of May.

US sharemarkets posted solid gains on Wednesday after four days of declines. Bargain hunters finally held the upper hand, although bond yields continued to rise. Hopes of a Greek debt deal added to the upward momentum.

The ASX 200 is up 0.8%, supported by strong gains in the materials and financial sectors.

European shares fell on Monday in light volumes. Spanish and Greek stock markets were hit following a poor local election result in Madrid and concerns over Greece’s debt problems. The Greek govt said that it intended to make good on its debt deal.

The ASX 200 has gained 0.9% to finish stronger for a fourth straight session. All sectors climbed higher, led by Utilities, which was up 2.5%.

US sharemarkets ended weaker after Janet Yellen suggested that the Federal Reserve was likely to raise interest rates this year. The Dow Jones fell by almost 54 points or 0.3% with the S&P 500 index down by 0.2%.
