The Dow Jones index rose by 153 points or 0.4%. The S&P 500 index climbed 0.8% and the Nasdaq index was up by 117 points or 0.8%. All three indices closed at record highs.

Data generally encouraged investors with jobless claims falling to the lowest level since the pandemic-led lockdowns. But the prices paid component of the ISM survey was the highest since records began in 1979.

The ASX 200 finished the first day of July at the lows of the session with loss of 47 points or 0.65% to 7,265. Losses were broad with only the material sector managing a small improvement.

Shares in Boeing rose 1.6% after Germany’s defence ministry announced it would buy five of the plane-maker’s P-8A maritime control aircraft. Economic data was supportive for stocks. The Dow Jones index rose by 210 points or 0.6%.

While the ASX 200 ended the financial year with a small improvement, it was a much more significant gain over the past 12 months. The benchmark index rallied 24% in FY21 while the broader All Ordinaries index had its best financial year since 1987.

American markets were largely flat overnight while still hovering around record highs. Trade was restrained on delta variant concerns and some cautiousness ahead of a key US jobs update on Friday.

There was a sense of déjà vu for local investors with the Aussie market performing similarly to Monday’s action. Like yesterday, the ASX 200 fell early only to turn things around in the afternoon and finish with a modest decline.

The US sharemarket edged higher overnight, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting record highs. The Dow Jones eased partly due to Boeing, which fell by ~4% on delayed regulatory approval of a new plane.

The Australian sharemarket bounced back from a slow start to finish flat despite concerns of tighter restrictions and lockdowns.

The Australian sharemarket fell by 0.32% on Thursday, sliding for a second day and keeping the ASX 200 on track to snap a five-week winning streak.

The Dow Jones index fell by 71 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index lost 0.1%. But the Nasdaq index rose by 18.5 points or 0.1% to a record high.

The Aussie market has continued its inconsistent week with the ASX 200 easing after yesterday’s big rally. Sentiment was dented by new restrictions in greater Sydney as the COVID cluster grows. Travel stocks were among decliners.

The Dow Jones index rose by 69 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index gained 0.5% and the Nasdaq index climbed 112 points or 0.8%.

The index rallied 107 pts or 1.5% to 7,342 as investors continue to digest comments from US Federal Reserve officials.

The Australian sharemarket slumped by 1.8%, making it the biggest tumble in a month and the worst start to a week in over a year.

The Dow Jones index shed 533 points or 1.6%. The S&P 500 index fell 1.3% and the Nasdaq index lost 131 points or 0.9%. For the week, the Dow slid 3.5%. The S&P 500 fell 1.9% and the Nasdaq lost 0.3%.

The Australian sharemarket edged higher on Friday, extending its winning streak to a fifth straight week and remaining near Wednesday’s all-time highs.

Technology shares were out-performing on optimism for a quicker-than-expected economic recovery. At Wednesday’s Federal Reserve meeting more policymakers brought forward their expectations on the timing of rate hikes.

The Australian sharemarket eased by 0.37%, snapping a four day winning streak mostly due to a pullback from resource stocks and despite a decline in unemployment.
