The Australian sharemarket has shaken off record highs hit in the US overnight, with all sectors currently in negative territory. The ASX 200 remains on track to lift for a seventh straight month.

The US sharemarket rose by 0.7% overnight, hitting a fresh record high in the process. Facebook rose by over 7% in response to its latest results while Amazon’s quarterly profits more than tripled.

The ASX 200 rose to fresh 14-month highs today as it continues to inch towards the record levels of February last year. Technology and resources were among the main contributor to broader gains while Woolworths (WOW) was a weight.

The Australian sharemarket is higher for a second day, keeping the ASX 200 on track to lift for a seventh consecutive month. Energy and tech stocks are standing out while Woolies and Fortescue are slipping after handing down quarterly updates.

The US sharemarket lost ground in late trade despite the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates on hold for a 9th month. Apple, Facebook, Boeing, Ford, Spotify and Shopify all released earnings.

The Aussie market responded positively to today’s weaker than expected March Quarter inflation numbers as it gives the RBA less reason to lift rates sooner. Most sectors rose with financials, energy and property among the standouts.

Local shares have lifted following weaker than expected March Qtr inflation numbers. Financials, energy and property stocks are among the best performers while miners lag behind. There have been plenty of companies releasing quarterly updates.

The Dow Jones index rose by 3 points or less than 0.1%. The S&P 500 index fell by just 0.9 points from record highs. And the Nasdaq index fell by 48.5 points or 0.3% from record highs.

The Australian sharemarket finished lower for a second day with most sectors heading backwards. However, with just three trading days left in April, the Aussie market is having its best month of the year.

The Australian sharemarket is falling for a second day with most sectors in negative territory.

Key earnings reports are set to be delivered this week. Investors also await the Federal Reserve rates decision and data on economic growth. Shares in Tesla rose by 1.2% ahead of results expected after the bell on Monday.

The ASX 200 has slipped 0.2% or 15 points on what was a quiet start to the last week of April. Materials were the best performing sector with Fortescue Metals (FMG) a standout. Consumer stocks underperformed as the majority of sectors closed lower.

The Aussie market is struggling for direction early on Monday as the ASX 200 trades mostly flat. Gains for resources & financials are being offset by declines for the majority of the market. Nib Holdings (NHF) shares have jumped on earnings guidance.

The Dow Jones index closed up by 228 points or 0.7%. The S&P 500 index gained 1.1% and the Nasdaq index added 198 points or 1.4%. For the week, the Dow Jones index fell 0.5%, the S&P 500 index lost 0.1% and the Nasdaq index dipped 0.3%.

The Australian sharemarket edged higher on Friday, however fell short of extending its winning streak to a fifth consecutive week. Retail stocks were among the hardest hit.

The Australian sharemarket is down slightly at lunch, keeping the market on track to end a four-week winning streak as most sectors pullback from a choppy start.

There was mixed economic data and renewed concern the pandemic was worsening. Investor sentiment was also dampened after Reuters reported that US President Joe Biden will propose raising the marginal income tax rate to 39.6% from 37%.

Local shares built on a shaky start to close well higher on Thursday. The ASX 200 added 58 pts or 0.8% as it enjoyed its best daily improvement in 2 weeks. Improvements were broad with nearly all sectors lifting.

The Aussie market is edging higher at lunch as it looks to rebound from back-to-back losses. Investors continue to get plenty of quarterly updates to keep things interesting with AMP, Woodside, Santos & Redbubble among the more notable names.

Nine of the 11 S&P 500 sectors rose, with only communication services and utilities falling. Shares in Netflix fell by 7.4% after it disappointed with data on subscriber growth in the first quarter.

While the ASX 200 still closed lower for a second successive session, it could have been a far larger fall with the benchmark index down roughly 110 points or 1.5% at lunch.

The Aussie market has followed US markets lower as investor concern over rising COVID-19 cases globally weighs on equity markets. The ASX 200 has fallen back below 7,000 on broad losses.

The Dow Jones index fell by 256 points or 0.8%. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.7%. And the Nasdaq index lost 128.5 points or 0.9%. After the close of trade, shares in Netflix were down by 10% in response to its earnings result.

The ASX 200 ended its recent winning run with the benchmark index falling 48pts or 0.7% to 7,017. While it has eased back from its recent 13-month highs, it remains only ~2.5% away from the record levels of February last year.

The Aussie market is on track for its first daily decline in over a week, following losses on Wall St overnight. There have been plenty of company quarterly updates to keep news flowing. Afterpay (APT) and Rio are two of the bigger names to release updates.

The Dow Jones index fell by 123 points or 0.4%. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.5%. And the Nasdaq index lost 138 points or 1.0%.

Aussie shares have managed to lift for a fifth consecutive session with the ASX 200 slowly inching towards all-time highs. The big banks & miners were the main contributors to the market’s small improvements while BNPL & energy names underperformed.
