The Australian sharemarket is easing by 0.3% at lunch, snapping a three-day winning streak and taking a breather as the ASX 200 remains on track to record its biggest monthly gain in 32 years.

The Australian sharemarket extended its winning streak to three days thanks to strong gains from the major banks. Thanks to hopes of a coronavirus vaccine, the ASX 200 is up 10% in November.

The Aussie market is extending its winning streak to a third day as the ASX continues to hold above 6,500. The major banks are helping to drive market gains with health & discretionary retailers also supporting.

Disappointing US retail sales data, surging virus cases and worries about shutdowns dented sentiment. Shares of pharmacy owner CVS Health (-8.6%) and Walgreens Boots Alliance (-9.6%) both dropped after Amazon (+0.2%) launched an online pharmacy.

The Aussie market lifted slightly following more optimism around a COVID-19 vaccine. The ASX 200 lifted 0.2% or 13.9pts to 6,498 as banking, energy & travel stocks outperformed while tech & safe havens fell.

The Aussie market is up 0.4% on vaccine hopes as the ASX resolved tech issues which kept markets closed on Monday. The local market is on track to have its best month since March 1988.

Both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 hit record highs thanks to encouraging early vaccine trial results from US company Moderna.

The Aussie market only managed to trade for ~20 minutes to start the new trading week as a market data issue at the ASX caused an outage for the remainder of the session. In the brief time the market was open, it was rather positive for the ASX 200 which continued to hit fresh 8-month highs with a gain of 79pts or 1.23%.

While the Aussie market surged by 1.2% in early trade following a positive lead from Wall Street, tech issues at the ASX forced a pause in trade at 10:24am AEDT.

The US sharemarket rose by 1.4% on Friday, finishing at a record closing high. The concerning spike in coronavirus cases is being offset by vaccine optimism.

While the Australian sharemarket eased by 0.2% on Friday, it still rose by 3.5% this week and is up 8% so far this month on vaccine hopes and plans to reopen state borders.

The ASX 200 is set to open lower on Friday, following in the footsteps of US markets overnight, which closed around session lows and ended a run of gains that saw the broader US market rise by 9% since the start of last week.

Investors ditched growth stocks in favour of value stocks. Tech shares continued to retreat. Apple (-0.3%) introduced its first notebook computer with an Apple-designed microprocessor.

The Aussie market has managed to close higher for a fourth session in a row as it again closes at the best levels since March. The ASX 200 index had popped 2.2% on the open on encouraging COVID-19 vaccine developments.

The Aussie market continues to hit fresh 8-month highs as the ASX 200 pushes through 6,400 points at lunch. Positive news about a Pfizer vaccine trial has seen travel, banking, and energy stocks soar.

A large-scale coronavirus vaccine study delivered promising results. US drugmaker Pfizer (+7.7%) and its German partner BioNTech (+13.9%) said data from the trial of their vaccine showed it was more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19.

The ASX 200 has continued its post-election rally with the index jumping 108pts or 1.75% to 6,298. The index also hit 8-month highs as investors continue to react to the news of Joe Biden as President-elect. Gains were rather widespread with miners helping drive broader market improvements.

Gains have been widespread as every sector makes advances. Leading the charge have been the materials, IT and communications, all with improvements of at least 2%. Energy, financials and utilities are seeing the smallest lifts.

US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Congress should enact a smaller, targeted coronavirus stimulus package. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was lower by 67 points or 0.2%.

The Aussie market has finished Friday’s session firmer with the ASX 200 adding 50 points or 0.8% to 6,190. This helped the index climb 4.4% for the week, the best in 4 weeks.

The index remains firmer and is 40 points or 0.67% at 6,180 around midday. Today’s gains are also adding to what has been a positive week for local shares with the Aussie market ~4% higher.
